SANS Security's Foundation Practice Test

The correct term is "Virtual Private Network," and its primary function is to create a secure connection over the internet. A VPN establishes an encrypted tunnel between the user's device and a remote server, ensuring that the data transmitted is protected from potential interception by unauthorized parties. This secure connection is particularly valuable when using public wi-fi networks, where data could be vulnerable to eavesdropping.

A VPN also allows users to mask their IP address, providing an additional layer of privacy while online. This is particularly beneficial for accessing geographically restricted content, as it can make it appear that the user is connecting from a different location.

The other options provided do not accurately reflect the standard definition or function of a VPN, with incorrect terms or functions that stray from the core purpose of establishing secure internet connections.
